In 1978 in the Department of Plant Pests & Diseases (HPT) FP – UB begins its undergraduate program by using a system of credits that can be taken for 4 years .Plant Pests and Diseases program is the only true existing study program in the Department of HPT to the present. Plant Pests and Diseases program was established in September 24, 1984 based on Kep.DiktiNo.118.DIKTI/KEP/1984. Currently plant pest and disease study program has A for its accreditation and contributes significantly to real agricultural development in Indonesia through implemented program in the community and trained farmers. In 2008, Plant Pest and Disease study program, Agricultural Cultivation study program, and Soil study program merged into one study program named Agroecotechnology. Plant Pest and disease study program will be exist by the end of 2011 and it will not be extended.

The specializations of Plant Pest and Disease Department are:

  1. Science of Pest Plant (Entomology, Nematology, and Acarology)
  2. Science of Plant Disease (Bacteriology, Mycology, Virology)

The other fields of studies are Biotechnology on Pest Plant, Toxicology and Pesticide, and Integrated Pest Management.

Plant Pest and Disease Department has two laboratories since it was established, namely Entomology and Fitopatology laboratory. In 1980, those two laboratories were developed into five laboratories. They are Entomology, Mycologi, Bacteriology, Virology and Nematology /Acarology. Moreover, based on Keputusan Rektor Univesitas Brawijaya Nomor: 100/SK/1996 the laboratories were converted into four, specifically: Entomology, Mycology, Bacteriology/Virology, and Nematology/Acarology laboratory. Since ….the Entomolgy and Nematology/Acarology laboratory merged into Pest Plant laboratory, while Mycology and Bacteriology/ Virology laboratory merged into Plant Disease laboratory.
